Description

Summary

The key responsibility of the Dean of Students is to assist in assuming the maintenance of the TranZed culture, and work directly with students and their families. The Dean of Students also collaborates with teachers and the principal to recommend intervention and strategies that motivate positive and appropriate student behavior. In addition, this position is responsible for collecting and analyzing data associated with the Behavior Motivation System and servicing the student support center.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesKEY RESULT AREA #1 - Teaching of Executive Functioning Skills This KRA will be successfully completed when:

1. Executive functioning skills are taught to students.

2. The skill building center is successfully deploying interactive skill development techniques to teach social behavior.

3. Communication and socialization skills are developed.

4. Leadership and facilitation of social skills group is carried out.

5. Students are provided ongoing feedback through check in and checkout program.

6. One to one proactive sessions are conducted.KEY RESULT AREA #2 - Work with Families This KRA will be successfully completed when:

1. Families are educated and assisted in aligning parenting practices and expectations with those of the school.

2. Parents are kept informed of their childs involvement in the student support center.KEY RESULT AREA #3 - Administrative Activities This KRA will be successfully completed when:

1. When data pertaining to student behavior is collected and analyzed.

2. When teachers are collaborated with and coached on how to work with students who are sent to the student support center by teaching them behavior intervention techniques.

3. The DOS processes referrals to the Start Team.

4. The DOS chairs the Start Team.

5. The DOS attends and actively participates in Leadership Team meetings.

6. Coordinate student interns responsible for gathering data to inform the student support center.

7. Collaborate with the school based mental health worker to assure alignment between their work with students and the student support centers goals for the student.KEY RESULT AREA #4 - Other Duties This KRA will be successfully completed when:

1. Brain based strategies are taught and workshops are presented.

2. The DOS attends IEP meetings as needed.

3. The DOS leads and coordinates restorative justice and restitution projects.

4. All duties as assigned are carried out.

Education and/or Experience

A bachelors degree, M.A. preferred, in a human service field and five-years experience working with at-risk and/or special needs children. Working 5 years in a direct practice or supervisory capacity is required. Eight years of successfully working with children in a TranZed organization may substitute for the degree requirement. Must have demonstrated successful experience at using the TranZed philosophy to create a TranZed culture in an aspect of an organization serving children and have effectively demonstrated the ability to mentor and train others using the TranZed approach.

Demonstrate knowledge and application of behavioral management continuum of services.

Ability to train and monitor the implementation of school-wide behavioral support systems and crisis management programs, in alignment with all regulatory compliance agencies.

Ability to assess and manage behavioral staff to respond quickly to crises, at times requiring the use of therapeutic holding, using the least restrictive intervention necessary to de-escalate the situation.

Ability to supervise a team of behavioral support staff.

Relate to children with emotional disabilities and autism in a sensitive, empathetic, understanding, and clinically insightful manner.

Demonstrate knowledge of human behavior and child development, including an understanding of the factors that contribute to dysfunctional behavior.

  • Ability to communicate well, both orally and in written reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Dean of Students is expected to oversee the crisis intervention program implementation at the school level. He is responsible for ensuring the overall compliance with crisis data systems and reports, as well as collection and data analysis associated with the Behavior Motivation Systems. The Dean of students is also responsible for the overall training and coaching of staff members in crisis intervention and the appropriate use of the Multi-Sensory De-escalation Rooms (MSDR).

The Dean of Students will supervise a behavioral team and ensure that all interventions and data collection processes are implemented and monitored for compliance purposes. The dean of students will closely collaborate with the school compliance coordinator and senior social worker to ensure interventions and behavioral support systems are aligned with students needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position directly supervises behavioral coaches and an extensive team of IEP Aides in the school program. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
