Reports to: Vice President, Learning Innovation and Strategic Initiatives & Leadership of the Center for Earth Ethics

Weekly Hours: 20 Hours/Week

Compensation : $40,000/year (not benefits eligible)

The Program Manager for the Innovative Preaching and Ecojustice Initiative (IPEJI), funded by the Lilly Compelling Preaching Initiative, will oversee the comprehensive project management and implementation of the IPEJI program. This part-time position requires 20 hours per week. The position requires online evening hours every Tuesday, and the candidate must be available onsite for the three in-person residencies that occur on weekends. The Program Manager will collaborate with Union Theological Seminary faculty and staff, as well as partners at the Center for Earth Ethics (CEE), to guide program development, coordinate program delivery, and promote the achievement of grant objectives.

This position reports to Union Theological Seminary's Vice President, Learning Innovation and Strategic Initiatives, working closely with the leadership of the Center for Earth Ethics (CEE). It is a two-year, grant-funded position with the potential for renewal based on performance and funding availability.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Project Management and Leadership:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the IPEJI program within the allotted hours, ensuring alignment with grant requirements and organizational goals.
  • Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of program activities to meet timelines and deliverables.

Curriculum Development and Implementation

  • Collaborate with faculty, other subject matter experts, and instructional design and technology specialists to develop and expand learning opportunities, including non-credit and for-credit courses.
  • Foster partnerships with seminaries and organizations to enrich ecojustice preaching approaches and recruit participants.

Fellowship Program Development and Management

  • Develop and oversee the fellowship component of IPEJI, including recruitment, selection, programming, and project supervision.
  • Support fellows throughout the program, providing guidance, mentorship, and resources to enhance their learning and project development.
  • Coordinate with CEE leadership to organize in-person events, including residential experiences and conference participation.
  • Support the development and deployment of online resources and virtual community platforms to engage and support program participants and stakeholders.

  • Passionate about leveraging preaching for advancing ecojustice imperatives.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while contributing to a team environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in theology, education, nonprofit management, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).
  • Proven track record in project management, preferably in educational or nonprofit settings.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage complex projects and diverse stakeholders.
  • Innovative mindset with a demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and drive creative solutions.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, possessing a high degree of innovation capacity.
