Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and oversee the job responsibilities of the Process Engineer and maintenance staff.
  • Manage process engineering and maintenance annual budget.
  • Create and update controlled mold specification files.
  • Prepare print specs and de-flash specs when updating controlled spec sheets, and distribute to department foremen.
  • Consult with planning and design teams on product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • Establish machine setup specifications and work instructions.
  • Train and assist operators as needed.
  • Travel to customer plants to address quality issues.
  • Amend existing spec sheets as necessary.
  • Improve processability of existing parts, reduce scrap, and lower costs.
  • Lead the plant maintenance team.
  • Define preventative maintenance strategies.
  • Maintain critical spare parts inventory.
  • Lead process engineering and maintenance departments.
  • Collaborate with the machine shop to create new fixtures and components for new jobs.
  • Work with the machine shop to revise existing molds as required.
  • Review specifications, blueprints, tool orders, and shop data.
  • Coordinate with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design issues related to materials, tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and costs.
  • Select standard components such as bushings and tool bits for tool design.
  • Ensure final part quality, including shutting down processes producing discrepant material.
  • Draft preliminary sketches and prepare layout and detailed drawings.
  • Modify tool designs based on trial or production data to enhance tool life or performance.
  • Maintain the latest revision levels of applicable external engineering standards.
  • Qualifications:

    Bachelor's Degree (B.S. or B.A.) in a relevant technical field from a four-year college or university.

    Five or more years of related experience as a controls engineer or equivalent.
