Brief Summary:
The Assistant Field Service Technician is responsible for the quality and completion of Service work at solar PV installations in California. The work includes corrective maintenance as well as preventative maintenance activity on major equipment, warranty, troubleshooting, and potentially complex diagnoses. The Assistant Field Service Technician must have the ability to travel to multiple sites daily (transportation is provided); overnight stays are infrequent but will be expected.

- Perform corrective maintenance services and as needed, preventative maintenance on commercial solar installations.
- Routinely inspect electrical systems and communications (wiring, inverters, switchgear, and monitoring communications).
- Be proactive in troubleshooting electrical equipment onsite, and communicate with the team to find safe, code-compliant, and effective solutions.
- Read and interpret construction design drawings, review electrical single line diagrams, as-builds and submittals, and plan work accordingly.
- Install electrical equipment and conduit, pull wire, test, and make terminations as needed.
- Perform “take-offs” and provide material requisitions.
- Respond to emergency maintenance needs (infrequent).
- Provide daily field reports to the Service Team staff, follow up as needed with internal staff and external vendors.
- Interact with our internal team, the customer or customer's personnel, and vendors in a professional manner.
- Thoroughly document issues and resolutions in daily field reports and photos on software provided.
- Maintain company vehicle so that it is always clean, presentable, functional.
- Maintain company assigned tools, safety gear and other resources.
- Attend training sessions as assigned.
- Other duties as may be required or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Required:
- 3-5 years' experience in general construction and/ or specialized trade (ie: electrical, carpentry, plumbing, low voltage, etc.).
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in general construction.
- Previous experience working with power/hand tools, electrical equipment, and the ability to navigate their usage safely and effectively.
- Ability to provide field reports daily and successfully navigate intermediate level smart technology, digital platforms, and email (ie: Office 365, laptop, smart phone, tablet, etc.).
- Self-motivated, dependable, and extensive interest in renewable energy.
- Ability to perform tasks like moving/lifting heavy objects and digging trenches for installing conduit.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with employees, maintaining a warm and professional manner and customer service mindset.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable and safe driving record.
- Ability to complete Aerial Lift Certification, Forklift Certification.
- Ability to read construction plan sets and equipment manuals.
- Ability to provide material “take-offs” in a timely manner.
- Highly motivated and trainable with a desire to learn.
- Focused on safety, quality, and productivity.
Preferred:
- 5-10 years' experience in general construction and/ or specialized trade (ie: electrical, carpentry, plumbing, low voltage, etc.).
- Active California Journeyman Electrician Certification or active in CA Electrical Trainee Program (and/ or willingness to get certified/ active within 1st year of employment).
- Experience maintaining and servicing solar inverters (SMA, Chint, Delta and others).
- Experience maintaining and servicing solar monitoring systems (Also Energy PowerTrack, Locus, and other monitoring platforms).
- Ability to troubleshoot low voltage communication systems, servers, and controls (ie: PLC's (Programmable Logic Controller)).
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Platforms (ERPs), ticketing systems or scheduling software.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification (and/ or willingness to get certified immediately).
