The New York City Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) works daily to enforce, educate, and outreach on the city's Human Rights Law. The Commission aims to address historic and contemporary inequities to foster a city free from discrimination through training, education, policy initiatives, testing, investigations, litigation, and enforcement.
The Commission is seeking a highly qualified Reentry Outreach Specialist with expertise in engaging justice-impacted individuals within NYC and creating innovative outreach strategies to support our mission.
Key Responsibilities
Report to the Manhattan Director; plan, implement, coordinate, and monitor outreach to justice-impacted communities, including Manhattan-specific efforts.Create partnerships and conduct visits to jails, prisons, and correctional facilities across NYC.Prepare reports, conduct analyses, and develop strategic outreach plans.Build and update partnerships with community, faith-based, and justice-related organizations, providing them with information and resources on Fair Chance initiatives.Provide technical assistance and training on Fair Chance policies citywide.Support outreach activities in Manhattan via workshops and training on the NYC Human Rights Law and protections for various community groups.Conduct intake interviews for potential discrimination inquiries from the public.Represent the Commission at community meetings, cultural events, and neighborhood projects.Manage electronic information systems to support agency operations.Perform other duties as needed within the civil service title to promote the agency's work.Minimum Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college plus two years of experience in intergroup relations, community relations, civil rights law enforcement, investigations, social work, law, or related fields; or
- High school diploma or equivalent plus four years of relevant experience; or
- Equivalent education and experience, with at least one year of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills
- Strong knowledge of human rights issues; experience with diverse, vulnerable, and justice-impacted communities.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Experience in restorative practices, conflict resolution, and outreach research tools.
- Ability to engage hard-to-reach communities and fluency in additional languages preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet research, data management, and analytical skills.
- Organized, detail-oriented, able to work independently and collaboratively, and prioritize effectively.
