The incumbent, as an assistant in this field, you will have the opportunity to learn and develop your skills in maintaining and using a wide range of instruments such as dial indicators, micrometers, depth gauges, Vernier gages etc. used in various codes. Calibrating, and installing instruments to ensure they function accurately and efficiently. Working with tool inventory systems.

Responsibilities/Knowledge include but are not limited to:

  • Take direction of tool room supervisor.
  • \n
  • Brings attention to supervisor any problems encountered
  • \n
  • Work is accordance with instruction and procedures
  • \n
  • Computer knowledge in use for inventory control.
  • \n
  • Manual inventory count stock on hand and daily inventory for adjustment.
  • \n
  • Operate control of tools in tool crib.
  • \n

Require qualifications

    \n
  • Must have some knowledge basic mechanical physics
  • \n
  • Ability to read with minimum efficiency Vernier and micrometers and scales
  • \n
  • Some knowledge of hand tools and safety gear.
  • \n
  • People skills

  • Lift and carry 50lbs

Metals Inspector $29.70/hr. – $31.97/hr. (WG-09 to WG-11)

Job Description:

\n

The position is located in a heavy industrial setting at the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center in Philadelphia, PA. The Metals Inspector ensures that products manufactured in our facility conform to their applicable technical instructions through the performance of various non-destructive testing methods and techniques. The incumbent in this position is a highly skilled, certified NDT specialist in accordance with ASNT Recommended Practice SNT-TC-1A and is required to obtain and maintain qualification and certification through periodic performance and written examinations by authorized NAVSEA representatives, in accordance with the requirements of NAVSEA T9074-AS-GIB-010-271.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    \n
  • Certified NDT specialist required to obtain and maintain qualification and certification through periodic performance and written examinations by authorized NAVSEA representatives.
  • \n
  • Performs complex Non-destructive testing and analysis on complex and non-routine cast metal components, Level 1 and SUBSAFE components.
  • \n
  • Completes and maintains detailed test records.
  • \n
  • Ensure work performed by production shops meets applicable acceptance criteria by using various types of NDT (UT, MT, VT, PT).
  • \n
  • Performs calibration and safety checks of test equipment prior to and after performance of NDT inspections.
  • \n

Qualifications Required for the Position

  • High school education
  • \n
  • Ability to obtain and maintain qualification and certification through periodic performance and written examinations by authorized NAVSEA representatives; recertification occurs every 3 years.
  • \n
  • Ability to pass annual surveillance and visual acuity
  • \n
