Salary: $18.15 Hourly Location : Redlands, CA Job Type: Part Time Job Number: 02019 Department: Library Opening Date: 08/13/2025 Closing Date: 9/1/2025 11:59 PM Pacific Max Number of Applicants: 150 Description $18.15 Hourly Up to 1000 Hours Per Fiscal Year Maximum Number of Applicants : 150 Under supervision, performs a variety of customer service and clerical tasks; performs tasks in connection with checking out or checking in library materials, issuing library cards, shelving books and filing of library materials. Exercises no supervision. Examples of DutiesExamples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Serves at circulation desk checking books in and out of library;
- Prepares notices for overdue books;
- Receives and accounts for fines paid on Dynix automated system;
- Registers new patrons on Dynix automated system;
- Issues library cards;
- Assists patrons in the use of library facilities and resources;
- Resolves conflicts regarding overdue materials;
- Shares information about library's circulation policies with the public;
- Shelves and straightens books;
- Assists in maintaining an orderly and attractive atmosphere;
- Assists patrons in use of copy machine; maintains public copier paper supply, toner and handles copier coin machine and paper jams;
- Places books, supplies, and other materials in appropriate locations;
- Performs routine clerical assignments;
- Maintains records and prepares reports;
- Transfers information from handwritten records to be typed on index cards;
- Maintains files;
- Answers questions and telephone inquiries from patrons regarding books and other library materials and library services;
- Assists patrons on how to use library facilities and services;
- Picks-up and delivers materials;
- Identify books in need of mending and repair; assist with minor mending and taping of minimally torn pages;
- Performs opening and closing procedures;
- Brings computers up and running;
- Prepares holds;
- Ensures security of building;
- Works with library pages and volunteers on routine tasks and reviews their work; and
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of:
- Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment; and
- English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Skill to:
- Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment; and
- Type at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
Ability to:
- Learn to perform a variety of library clerical duties;
- Learn, interpret, and apply library rules and regulations;
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
- Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
- Ability to become familiar with technical library services and learn online bibliographic systems quickly;
- Perform a variety of clerical duties with speed and accuracy and attention to detail; and
- Be flexible in terms of job priorities.
Qualifications Experience:
- One year of clerical experience in a library;
- Experience working with computers.
Education:
- Equivalent to a high school diploma.
Special Requirements: Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
- Ability to work in a standard library environment;
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and lift 20 lbs.
