About the role Reporting to the Company's Technology & Quality Manager, an exciting opportunity exists for a Laboratory Technician to join the Syrah team based in Vidalia, Louisiana. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Analyzing inbound raw materials and reagents to determine compliance with specifications.
  • Analyzing products manufactured in the Vidalia facility to determine compliance with applicable specifications. Products include unpurified spherical graphite, by-product fines, purified spherical graphite (PSG), coated PSG, and carbonized leach purified graphite (CLP).
  • Operating and calibrating a wide array of laboratory analytical equipment including a particle size analyzer, analytical balances, XRF and ICP based devices for elemental analysis, and a BET surface area analyzer.
  • Conducting less automated laboratory procedures such as pH measurement, titrations, purity by loss on ignition, etc.
  • Assisting the Laboratory Superintendent and operations team with laboratory-based experiments to help in operational troubleshooting and/or process optimization.
  • Entering measurement data into the relevant databases and assisting where needed with data analysis to support the plant QA/QC systems.
  • Report all hazards, incidents, and near misses in line with Company policies and procedures.
  • Continually monitor the laboratory environment to ensure the safety of yourself and other employees.
  • Comply with the Company's Policies, operating procedures, and Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Assures compliance with corporate Safety, Health & Environmental rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Contribute to site EHS and ESG performance by engaging and working collaboratively at all levels.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 1+ year of previous experience in a technical laboratory role, preferably within the Chemical Manufacturing (or related) industry.
  • Proven exposure to and use of safe systems of work - e.g., risk management & incident reporting.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work according to production schedules.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and share information as required.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical assessment and background check.
