Job Title: Junior Quality Engineer – Full Time Salary

Location: Waterbury, CT

Salary: $55,000–$65,000/year

Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm

Position Summary

The Junior Quality Engineer will assist the Quality Manager (QM) in maintaining and improving the ISO 9001 quality system and SPC system, while providing support to production and continuous improvement initiatives through statistical tools, analytical equipment, and hands-on inspection. This highly visible role works across all levels of the organization, requiring a detail-oriented, team-oriented professional who thrives in a small, collaborative department.

Essential Functions

1. Quality System

  • Assist with improvements to the quality system, including control plan, procedure, and work instruction revisions.
  • Train personnel on established standards and procedures.
  • Conduct and support internal quality audits.
  • Lead problem-solving teams using root cause analysis tools.
  • Initiate and coordinate corrective and preventive actions for products and processes.

2. Departmental / Laboratory

  • Develop and maintain quality plans and gage methodologies; ensure gage calibration records are accurate.
  • Perform First Article inspections using CMMs, hand tools (micrometers, calipers, vision systems), and other measurement devices.
  • Audit products and processes for defects or deviations.
  • Sample product lots on hold to determine defect rates.
  • Prepare samples for outside testing.

3. Continuous Improvement

  • Champion DOE, SPC, Gage R&R, and statistical analysis for process and product improvements.
  • Participate in Kaizen events and promote 5S methodology.
  • Support initiatives to improve quality, reliability, and efficiency in materials, processes, and inspection methods.

4. Project Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and communicate project activities via timelines, project plans, and status updates.
  • Independently follow projects through to completion.

Background / Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or CQE preferred; statistical familiarity required.
  • Recent graduates to 3 years' experience encouraged to apply.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Team player with a willingness to handle varied tasks.
  • Strong communication skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with statistical methods, measurement systems, ISO 9001, GD&T, and Advanced Quality Planning.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Minitab, Excel, and Word; ability to build complex spreadsheets and databases.
  • Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain critical information in both hardcopy and electronic formats.
  • Experience with contact and non-contact measurement equipment.
