General DescriptionThe Marketing and Content Manager serves as the voice of Discover Crystal River across all digital platforms, crafting and executing strategies that promote the destination's brand, attract visitors, and engage audiences locally, nationally, and internationally. This role combines creativity with analytics, ensuring that all content aligns with Discover Crystal River's mission to position Citrus County as Florida's premier destination.Creates, curates, and manages high-quality multimedia content—including, but not limited to, photography, videography, graphics, and written copy—optimized for each platform. Develop campaigns that inspire travel, showcase the area's unique attractions (including manatee viewing, scalloping, kayaking, fishing, and cultural events), and strengthen community partnerships.The primary schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.Essential Functions

  • Develops and executes a comprehensive social media strategy across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), YouTube, and LinkedIn.
  • Plans and produce engaging written, visual, and video content that aligns with brand messaging and campaign goals.
  • Manages the content calendar and schedules posts to optimize audience reach and engagement.
  • Monitors and responds timely to online comments, questions, and reviews to foster positive community relationships.
  • Collaborates with organizations, public relations firms, photographers, videographers, influencers, and tourism partners to source compelling destination content.
  • Tracks and reports performance metrics, using insights to adapt strategies and improve results.
  • Stays current on tourism marketing trends, emerging social platforms, and algorithm changes to keep Discover Crystal River competitive.
  • Supports public relations, event coverage, and marketing initiatives, as needed.
  • Develops and maintains digital asset library.
  • Manages and processes media inquiries.
  • Assists in the development and hosting of familiarization tours for both media and influencers.
  • Attends tradeshows, events, and outreach opportunities.
  • Provide website support and integration.
  • Assists in the development of marketing and public relations strategies.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Minimum RequirementsEducation, Training, and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations or journalism or related field preferred.
  • Four (4) years' experience in promotion of hospitality/tourism related industry.
  • A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.
  • Proven experience in social media management, content creation, and digital storytelling—ideally within tourism, hospitality, or destination marketing.
Skills And Abilities
  • Strong photography, videography, and editing skills.
  • Ability to travel (local or international as needed).
  • Requires strong organizational skills.
  • Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear, confident manner using proper grammar.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
Certificates, Licenses, and Registration
  • Valid Florida Driver License (or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida), or valid Florida Identification Card is acceptable only for positions not required to drive a county vehicle.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
    • IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
    • IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Requires sitting most of the day.
  • The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • The job requires frequent balancing, and occasional bending and reaching above shoulders.
  • The job requires the completion of tasks that involve frequent typing and occasional simple grasping.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities
  • All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
