We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Steel Purchasing Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing steel and related materials to meet production needs. This role requires strong negotiation skills, a deep understanding of the steel market, and the ability to manage supplier relationships effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and purchase steel and related materials in line with company specifications and production schedules.
- Negotiate prices, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers to ensure cost-effective procurement.
- Manage and maintain relationships with existing suppliers while identifying and qualifying new suppliers.
- Ensure timely delivery of materials to meet production deadlines.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and inventory levels.
- Managing third-party processing orders and integrating purchases into our systems.
- Meet with suppliers on a regular basis to capture and address any pricing, supply, quality, or performance issues and to communicate demand forecasts
Specialized Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of supply chain/procurement functions
- Computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel)
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, weight conversions, and volume.
- Ability to read and interpret purchasing related documents such as specification sheets, Certificates of Analysis, catalogs, product-related literature, quotes, and technical books and/or manuals.
- Ability to prepare reports, purchase orders and correspondence related to purchasing.
- Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and with other employees of the organization.
- Experience with inventory management, logistics, and vendor relations.
- Knowledge of market trends and cost analysis.
- Understanding of Steel materials, processes, and suppliers.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in purchasing, preferably in the steel manufacturing industry.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Proficiency in using procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to analyze market trends and make informed purchasing decisions.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Collaborate with the production team to ensure materials meet the required standards.
- Experience with using FabSuite / Tekla EPM preferred
