Accounts Receivable Manager – Fashion Industry – Bergen County, NJ – Hybrid
Our client, a leading name in the fashion industry, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Accounts Receivable Manager to join their leadership team. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, creative environment while partnering directly with the Director of Credit and CFO to manage and improve accounts receivable and collections operations.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the full spectrum of receivables functions, including follow-up on outstanding balances, account updates, and resolution of payment discrepancies.
- Take ownership of resolving retailer-related financial offsets, short payments, and order disputes by partnering cross-functionally to identify root causes and implement solutions.
- Monitor, record, and reconcile customer incentive programs, ensuring accurate reflection in the general ledger, financial statements, and key accounting schedules.
- Contribute to the financial close process through preparation of adjusting entries, detailed reconciliations, and variance analyses.
- Review and analyze receivables aging schedules, ensuring records are current and that follow-up actions drive timely cash application.
- Provide day-to-day leadership for a small team, manage workload distribution, serve as the escalation point for complex matters, and develop staff capabilities through ongoing coaching.
- Coordinate with cross-departmental teams on a major ERP transition and engage in initiatives to streamline operational workflows, partner with the Director of Credit to develop and implement credit and collection strategies.
- Train, mentor, and supervise AR team members to ensure high performance and adherence to policies.
- Apply advanced spreadsheet skills (complex formulas, lookups, pivot analysis) to produce reconciliations, dashboards, and ad hoc reports that support decision-making.
Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in either finance or accounting or related field
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience in accounts receivable, including at least 2 years in a management role
- Fashion, retail, or consumer goods industry experience preferred.
- Proven history managing complex payment discrepancies, chargebacks or deductions, and financial adjustments, with the ability to trace issues from transaction level through resolution.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and the movement of transactions through the ledger, including preparation and review of adjusting entries.
- Experience in AR operations within inventory-based industries, preferably involving large national retail partners and high-volume account portfolios.
- Proficiency in computer skills, with expertise in Excel being mandatory
- The ability to manage and organize extensive data while paying close attention to accuracy and detail.
Location: Hybrid – 3 days on-site
