Job Description :

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity and is onsite 5 days/week in New Bedford, MA.

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Shipping Manager to lead and supervise daily shipping operations in a fast-paced warehouse environment. This role is ideal for someone who can lead by example, balancing a hands-on approach with strong supervisory skills. The Shipping Manager will be responsible for managing a small team, ensuring on-time shipments and receipts, coordinating logistics, and communicating effectively across departments. This is a key leadership position within the department, designed to relieve pressure from senior team members and drive accountability and efficiency on the shipping floor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and schedule a team of shipping/dock workers, including shift hand-offs and daily task delegation.
  • Create and manage lists for incoming and outgoing products, ensuring timely unloading, scanning, and internal movement of materials.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing to manage and track purchase orders and ensure timely deliveries.
  • Work with Sales and external carriers to arrange outbound shipments, provide shipping quotes, and schedule pickups.
  • Request and distribute commercial invoices to appropriate parties.
  • Enter receiving data into the NOW system and maintain accurate records of all shipments and receipts.
  • Track and investigate missing or delayed shipments.
  • Collaborate with internal departments including Inventory/Inspection to streamline handoffs and responsibilities.
  • Monitor email communication closely to respond quickly to schedule changes or shipment issues.
  • Take ownership of quoting and pricing negotiations with truckers/logistics partners.
  • Step in as a reliable backup when needed, including occasional Saturdays or extended absences of other team members.

Qualifications:

  • Proven supervisory experience in a warehouse, shipping, or logistics environment.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, hands-on role, willing to assist on the floor when needed.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in email communication and familiar with logistics/warehouse software.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing schedules and priorities.
  • Dependable, assertive, and able to motivate and lead a team effectively.
