PLEASE APPLY IMMEDIATELY.** Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of paraprofessional library support duties related to Adult Services, Children's Services, Technical Services, Reference Services and Circulation Services; performs related duties as required. Essential Job Functions Essential job functions may include, but are not limited to, the following: (These functions may not be present in all positions in this classification.   • Works at the public services desk and provides routine information and readers' advisory services to library patrons.
  • Coordinates and participates in the activities related to Circulation Services including the automated circulation system and the collection of library fines and fees.
  • Assists in the identification and procurement of library materials; updates and maintains public catalogs.
  • Participates in the development and delivery of children's program services including the preparation of program materials and story time activities.
  • Assists in maintenance of the library data processing systems.
  • Gathers statistics and compiles reports; prepares letters, memorandums and other correspondences.
  • Selects, schedules and supervises subordinate library staff.
  • Designs, organizes and conducts special assignments, projects, services and programs related to the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Conducts tours of library facilities and explains library programs and policies.
  • Qualification Guidelines To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities, and enable the individual to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position. A typical combination is: Education/Experience: Two years of general college course work from an accredited college or university, preferably including some library science courses. Experience in library work including advanced clerical and/or paraprofessional duties. Knowledge of: Considerable knowledge of clerical library functions; modern office methods, practices and record maintenance procedures; letter and report writing; and principles and practices of supervision and training. Ability to: Plan, coordinate and supervise activities related to the assigned area of responsibility; learn to analyze library data, activities and programs and develop appropriate conclusions and recommendations; learn to operate computerized systems related to library functions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contracted in the course of work; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; supervise and train subordinates. Licenses and Certificates PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift up to 15 pounds is required. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, crouching and stooping in the performance of daily office activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in retrieving and entering data using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading work related documents and using the computer, and acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Employee generally works indoors. Environment is generally clean with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, or odors. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and the employee will be exposed to interruptions from telephones and/or members of the public.
