The Department of Economics at the University of Vermont invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in macroeconomics, to begin in Fall 2026. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Economics (or a closely related field) in hand by the time of appointment. We welcome applicants with expertise in any area of macroeconomics, including but not limited to: Financial economics, International macroeconomics, Macroeconomic growth, Development economics, Monetary economics. We seek a scholar who will establish and maintain a productive research program in macroeconomics that results in peer-reviewed publications and, where appropriate, the pursuit of external funding. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to high-quality undergraduate teaching. Teaching responsibilities will include Macroeconomic Theory at the intermediate level, along with upper-level electives in the candidate's areas of specialization. Potential electives may include, but are not limited to: Money and banking, Financial markets and institutions, Financial economics, Economic forecasting and big data, Advanced time series analysis and financial econometrics, International finance and macroeconomics, Economics of uncertainty, risk, and finance. Quantitative skills and the ability to apply rigorous empirical methods will be considered favorably. Candidates whose teaching and research interests align with the missions of existing research centers at UVMsuch as the Vermont Complex Systems Center, Vermont Advanced Computing Center and Center for Research on Vermontor complement academic units such as the Grossman School of Business, are especially encouraged to apply. In addition to teaching and research, the successful candidate is expected to: Supervise undergraduate research projects, Advise the department's Fed Challenge Team, Engage with local media on macroeconomic issues, both national and regional, Contribute actively to the collegial and intellectual life of the department, college, and university. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate liberal arts education, student advising, mentoring, and service to the profession.
