Staff Software Engineer V - PagerDuty Automation

PagerDuty is seeking a Staff Software Engineer V to join our diverse, customer-focused team! As a Staff Software Engineer V, you will work across two teams on all things automation for PagerDuty. This is an exciting opportunity to drive automation architecture across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Java, AWS, Kubernetes, and SaaS experience in large scale environments.

PagerDuty Workflow Automation enables enterprise teams to automate end-to-end incident response and operational workflows, significantly enhancing reliability, reducing incident response times, and driving operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and lead the technical vision, architecture, and strategic direction for PagerDuty Workflow Automation.
  • Architect and deliver complex technical solutions spanning multiple engineering teams.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering management, product leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Act as a recognized technical leader and subject matter expert in SaaS development, workflow automation systems, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of technology initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, processes, and tools.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum of 12 years of professional software development experience.
  • Experience working with large systems or event-driven platforms at enterprise-scale.
  • Demonstrated expertise designing, implementing, and operating scalable SaaS solutions.
  • Expert-level knowledge of DevOps methodologies.
  • Proven track record of delivering strategic cross-domain technical initiatives.
  • Extensive experience influencing engineering direction across teams.
  • Ability to participate in PagerDuty's on-call rotation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Deep expertise in building complex workflow automation systems.
  • Experience defining system-level Service Level Objectives.
  • Thought leadership within the industry.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with executive leadership.

The base salary range for this position is $172,000 - $261,000 USD. This role may also be eligible for bonus, commission, equity, and/or benefits. Our base salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range reflects the minimum and maximum base salary we expect to pay newly hired employees for the position. Within the range, we determine pay for an individual based on a number of factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills/competencies, and experience.
