The Role: FreshDirect is seeking a hands-on, experienced HMR Supervisor to lead daily operations within our high-volume, industrial kitchen. This facility utilizes advanced batch-cooking equipment, including combi ovens, rotisseries, high-pressure deep fryers, tilt skillets, and steam-jacketed kettles. Inline portioning is also conducted as part of the kitchen workflow. This role reports directly to the HMR Manager and is responsible for maintaining operational excellence across food safety, culinary quality, equipment usage, and team leadership in a 7-day commercial kitchen operation. What You'll Do • Oversee Daily Kitchen Operations: Manage all aspects of food production, preparation, and partial assembly/packaging with a strong focus on food safety, quality control, and efficiency. • Drive Performance: Monitor and improve productivity rates, ensuring production goals are consistently met. • Support Product Launches: Collaborate with the Sr. Production Manager, R&D, and Packaging teams to introduce and scale new menu items. • Staff Scheduling & Labor Management: Build and manage daily staffing schedules aligned with labor models, budgets, and business needs. • Team Development & Leadership: Hire, train, coach, and guide team members, promoting a culture of high performance and accountability. • Food Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to governing agency regulations, HACCP protocols, GMPs, and internal food safety standards. • Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement: Proactively address operational issues and lead initiatives to optimize kitchen processes. • Equipment Oversight: Ensure proper use, cleaning, and preventive maintenance of all cooking equipment. Promptly report issues and follow up on repairs. • Change Management: Identify and implement process improvements in collaboration with senior leadership. • Policy Enforcement: Uphold FreshDirect policies related to safety, attendance, discipline, and operational standards. • Cross-functional Collaboration: Actively engage in company-wide projects, pilots, and process enhancement programs. What You Bring • High school diploma or equivalent required. • Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role within high-volume culinary production, commercial catering, or food manufacturing. • Experience working with large-scale cooking equipment and automated or semi-automated kitchen workflows. • Demonstrated knowledge of food safety practices and compliance (HACCP, GMP, USDA, Department of Agriculture). • NYC Food Protection Certificate or equivalent certification required. • Proficient in English; bilingual in Spanish is a plus. • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure production environment. What we Offer • The expected compensation for this role is $64,350- $70,820 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
