Flight Test Pilot
Collins Aerospace is seeking an experienced flight test pilot to support the development and certification of its cutting edge avionics product lines. This position is responsible for the development, planning, execution and reporting of flight test activities.
This is an onsite position based at the Eastern Iowa Airport located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
What you will do:
- Performs the duties of pilot-in-command (PIC) or second-in-command (SIC) on company owned or operated aircraft.
- Coordinate with other engineering teams to prepare flight test plans and reports necessary to show compliance to applicable requirements.
- Perform and witness ground/flight tests to verify procedures are followed and valid data is captured.
- Find compliance to regulations in accordance with your authorization/discipline.
- Utilize proper risk management to ensure flights are conducted with acceptable levels of safety and that hazards are identified and either mitigated or eliminated.
- Participate in research and development activities to advance the maturity and safety of company products.
- Contributes to the overall operation of the flight test operations department.
- Remain current and qualified in multiple aircraft as assigned based on project needs.
- Successfully participate in and apply learning from company-sponsored training.
- Use your professionalism and sound judgment.
- Maintain the highest degree of objectivity.
Education & experience you must have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience.
- This job requires a U.S. Person. A U.S. Person is a lawful permanent resident as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3). U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, U.S. permanent residents, or individuals granted refugee or asylee status in the U.S. are considered U.S. persons.
Qualifications you must have:
- An Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with Multi-engine and Instrument Ratings.
- Minimum of 4000 hours TT, 2000 PIC, 1500 Multi-engine.
- Must meet or exceed the minimum FAA Technical Qualifications and Experience for Flight Test Pilot DER specifically, 2000 hours PIC (100 hours within the past 12 months) and 100 hours of experimental flight testing.
- 8 years of progressively responsible engineering experience (for which an engineering degree may be substituted for up to 4 years credit).
- Cognizant of regulatory requirements related to civil aircraft approvals and experience in the certification process as well as avionics certification experience on FAA Part 23/25 aircraft.
- Working knowledge of applicable 14 CFR parts and related guidance material.
- Significant experience working directly with the FAA.
- FAA First-Class Medical certificate.
- Previous flight experience in turbine aircraft and a multi-crew environment.
- Ability to travel worldwide without restriction.
Qualifications we prefer:
- Existing FAA DER/ODA UM Flight Test Pilot credentials (to include Auto Flight Control authority)
- Challenger 604 and/or Challenger 350 type rating
- International operating experience
- Graduate of accredited test pilot school

The salary range for this role is 147,000 USD - 295,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
