Established in the Blue Ridge foothills of North Carolina in 1963, Leonard Truck Outfitters is a manufacturer and distributor whose product lines include storage buildings, cargo and utility trainers, truck covers, truck and van accessories, carports, playhouses, chicken coops, and dog houses. We serve our residential, commercial, fleet, and government customers through our 150+ retail store locations in eighteen states, supported by our corporate offices (in Mount Airy, NC, and Cobden, IL), distribution centers, and strategically located manufacturing facilities.Job SummaryThe Head of Merchandising position is located at the Leonard Mt. Airy, NC Customer Support Center (CSC), with operations in the U.S. and has overall responsibility for leading the company's merchandising function across all product lines, overseeing strategic planning, product selection, pricing, vendor management, inventory optimization, and promotional execution to maximize sales, profitability, and brand impact. This position reports directly to the Sr. VP, Store Sales & Operations and has up to five direct reports.Job Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes the company's overarching merchandising strategy across all product categories.
  • Aligns merchandising initiatives with overall corporate goals, brand positioning, and growth plans.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for product trends, market shifts, and competitive landscape.
  • Presents merchandising performance, insights, and future strategies to executive leadership.
  • Oversees the selection, sourcing, and procurement of shed buildings, truck accessories, and related products.
  • Directs lifecycle management of products, from introduction through end-of-life.
  • Establishes pricing strategies that maximize profitability while remaining competitive.
  • Ensures the product mix supports both core business and growth categories.
  • Builds and maintains strong vendor partnerships.
  • Negotiates terms, pricing, and service agreements to optimize cost and margin.
  • Evaluates vendor performance and ensure compliance with quality and delivery standards.
  • Partners with marketing on seasonal promotions, product launches, and cross-channel campaigns.
  • Oversees in-store display strategy and online merchandising to ensure brand consistency.
  • Identifies and execute upselling, bundling, and cross-merchandising opportunities.
  • Analyzes sales, margin, inventory, and market trend data to inform strategies.
  • Tracks key performance metrics and adjust tactics to improve results.
  • Leverages customer feedback to refine product offerings.
  • Leads, mentors, and develops the merchandising team to achieve high performance.
  • Sets clear objectives, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Fosters a collaborative culture that supports innovation and accountability.
  • Oversees departmental budgeting and resource allocation.

Education/Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Retail Management, or a related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years' progressive experience in merchandising, retail management, or related field, with at least 5 years in senior leadership.
  • Proven success in developing and executing merchandising strategies in a multi-location retail or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets and large cross-functional teams.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods (up to 75% of the time).
  • Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to move about the office and occasionally on retail floors or manufacturing areas.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. for product review or display setup.
  • Ability to travel to retail locations, vendor sites, and industry events as needed.
