Full-time employees of the West Virginia State Treasurers Office (WVSTO) are eligible for Public Employee Insurance Agency benefits and a number of other benefits available to state employees.Location: Charleston, WVJob Type: Full-Time Permanent; Not in the Classified Service; FLSA: Non-ExemptDivision: CommunicationsReports To: Assistant Treasurer, CommunicationsNature Of WorkUnder general supervision, this position assists in the communication of information on activities and policies of the State Treasurer and his/her Office to various external and internal audiences through multiple media channels according to the direction and strategies established by the State Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer of Communications. Must be a self-starter while complying with policies, practices and procedures described by the Assistant Treasurer of Communications. This position is required to travel with the State Treasurer for press events/other appearances, as necessary.Job Duties
  • Assists the Assistant Treasurer of Communications in developing engaging content for both internal and external communications to meet the short-term and long-term communications strategies of the STO.
  • Responsible for creating, managing, and posting content on all STO social media sites including capturing and editing videos and photos.
  • Creates engaging graphics for internal and external communications materials.
  • Works with Assistant Director of Communications and Assistant Treasurer of Communications to schedule social media posts and interacts with followers to build community and enhance brand presence.
  • Keeps up to date with industry trends and popular content strategies.
  • Provides support for press conferences and office events.
  • Assists Assistant Treasurer as needed.
  • Helps build brand awareness for the State Treasurer and all STO programs on nontraditional forms of media.
Minimum QualificationsBachelors degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university with a major in English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field required; two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. State government experience highly preferred.Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of video editing especially for Facebook and Instagram reels and evolving trends on social media platforms.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of techniques of graphics composition and layout procedures.
  • Ability to organize and present content in a clear, concise, and appealing format.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agency officials, the news media, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate easily and clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to gather information by research, observation, or interview.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Familiarity with graphic design software is recommended.
