Position Summary: The Director of Buildings and Grounds is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, safety, and overall functionality of school facilities and grounds. This individual ensures that the school environment remains clean, secure, and conducive to learning while managing staff, budgets, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facility Management
- Oversee the maintenance, repair, and improvement of all school buildings, ensuring a safe and operational learning environment. ·
- Grounds Supervision
- landscaping, and athletic fields to uphold cleanliness, aesthetics, and functionality. ·
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure school facilities meet safety standards, fire codes, and environmental regulations. Coordinate inspections and address compliance concerns. ·
- Staff Supervision
- Manage custodial, maintenance, and grounds keeping personnel, providing training, scheduling, and performance evaluations. ·
- Budget and Resource Management:
- Develop and oversee budgets related to facilities and grounds maintenance. Negotiate contracts for vendors and service providers. ·
- Develop contingency plans for facility-related emergencies, such as severe weather damage, power failures, or security concerns. ·
- Work with school administrators, teachers, and external contractors to support facility needs for academic programs and extracurricular events. Sustainability Initiatives
- Implement environmentally friendly practices, including energy efficiency programs, waste management, and sustainable landscaping.
Qualifications: ·
- Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred). ·
- Proven experience in facility management, maintenance, or a related role within an educational or institutional setting. ·
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. ·
- Knowledge of safety codes, regulations, and building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.). ·
- Ability to manage budgets and work with vendors or contractors. ·
- Proficiency in facility management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Working Conditions:Requires occasional evening or weekend work during emergencies or school events. ·Physical demands may include lifting, walking, and working in various weather conditions.
