This role is responsible for the strategic direction and daily management of technical services, including electronic resource management, acquisitions, cataloging, and interlibrary loan. By ensuring efficient access and thoughtful stewardship of library resources, this position plays a vital part in supporting the university's academic and research mission.The Head will lead collection development efforts, oversee vendor relationships and licensing negotiations, and promote effective communication and training across library and university departments. This position offers the opportunity to shape an innovative and responsive library collection that meets the evolving needs of our students, faculty, and researchers—particularly in the health sciences.We're seeking a forward-thinking professional who is comfortable navigating the complexities of electronic resources, budget management, and cross-functional collaboration. This is an excellent opportunity for someone ready to make a meaningful impact in a growing, health-focused academic environment.Essential Functions

  • Lead, hire, and supervise technical services staff responsible for electronic resource access, cataloging, acquisitions, and interlibrary loan services.
  • Manage the lifecycle of electronic resources—from research and acquisition to implementation and assessment—and provide training as needed.
  • Review, negotiate, and uphold licenses and subscription agreements; act as the primary contact for vendors.
  • Support academic programs by evaluating and recommending resources, assessing existing collections, and making data-informed collection development decisions.
  • Communicate collection updates and changes to library staff and the university community while staying current on trends in health sciences librarianship.
  • Provide occasional service desk coverage (evenings/weekends on rotation) and fulfill other duties as assigned, maintaining consistent attendance and reliability.
Qualifications
  • Master's in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited program
  • Experience with acquisitions and budget management
  • Experience working with library electronic resources throughout their lifecycle, or any combination of education, experience and training
  • Management experience preferred
