The City of Rancho Palos Verdes is seeking a passionate and experienced Recreation Program Supervisor to lead operations at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center and to facilitate events at Founders Park.
This position is open on a continuous basis and can close without notice at any time. The first application screening is scheduled for the week of May 19, 2025.
DEPARTMENTThe Recreation and Parks Department manages a comprehensive park system, oversees services in the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve, and coordinates community activities and events. Responsibilities include departmental administration, recreational facilities, programs, classes, special events, the REACH program for the developmentally disabled, support services, and open space management.
POSITIONThis exempt position is covered by the Rancho Palos Verdes Employees Association. The Recreation Program Supervisor will supervise part-time staff, create work schedules, coordinate staff training, enforce safety procedures, and oversee the City's open space areas and parking operations.
The supervisor oversees the Point Vicente Interpretive Center, which features a museum, gift shop, scenic grounds, native plant garden, and whale watching location, as well as a banquet room for events. The role includes supporting the docent volunteer organization, Los Serenos de Point Vicente.
Additionally, the supervisor manages events at Founders Park, a scenic location ideal for weddings and gatherings.

IDEAL CANDIDATEThe ideal candidate is motivated, enthusiastic, customer-service oriented, and experienced in managing recreation facilities, museums, volunteers, rentals, and programs. Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills are essential. Supervisory experience, ability to delegate, mentor staff, and familiarity with recreation management systems like ActiveNet, PastPerfect, Cougar Mountain, and Tyler MUNIS are highly desirable.
DEFINITION AND CLASS CHARACTERISTICSUnder general direction, plans, directs, and manages the City's largest recreation programs or facilities. Responsible for supervising staff, overseeing programs, and ensuring compliance with regulations. This class supervises full-time, part-time, contract, and volunteer staff and is distinguished from the Deputy Director by scope of responsibility.
Equivalent to a four-year degree in recreation administration or related fields plus at least five years of progressive supervisory experience in recreation programs, including two years of staff supervision.
