We are in the heart of Chicago, across the street from historic Grant Park, and housed in some of the most iconic buildings in the South Loop.Columbia College Chicago a private urban institution of over 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students, four-year College offering a distinctive curriculum that blends liberal arts, creative and media arts and business is currently searching for a PROJECT ADVISOR TRIO.Position SummaryUnder the direction and supervision of the TRIO Director, the Project Advisor provides students participating in the project with knowledge of campus resources, institutional policies and procedures, academic options, and degree requirements. Utilizing a holistic approach, the Project Advisor will also work closely with program participants to provide resources related to academic skills building, social integration into the college community, financial literacy, and post-graduation planning. The role of the Project Advisor is critical toward improving the undergraduate student experience and ultimately increasing student success, retention, and graduation rates. There is frequent contact with students concerning matters of sensitive or personal nature, in addition to regular collaborative efforts and communication with academic departments, student support services, and other members of the campus community.The Project Advisor TRIO must be skillful in holistic advising and best practices used in student development, as related to first-generation college, lower-income, and students with disabilities. Knowledge of college services and resources, policies and procedures are essential for competent performance. Ability to assess individual circumstances and to summarize, explain, and present information according to the needs of a diverse audience is required.This is a grant-funded position, continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funding and/or program needs. Flex work option available.Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic student support to assist students with academic options and requirements, transitioning to college, engagement with the community, and baseline career preparation.
  • Serve as a liaison to resources on and off campus.
  • Monitor student academic progress and overall completion of degree requirements.
  • Monitor registration and course schedules and provide outreach to targeted students.
  • Use professional judgement to assess individual circumstances and identify at-risk students.
  • Utilize integrated student success software to track student progress, enter notes on student advising sessions, and collaborate with relevant student support staff to address student issues.
  • Develop and deliver presentations at new student orientation, open house, and other events, as scheduled, or requested.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with faculty and staff in academic and student service departments.
  • Develop, facilitate, or present seminars and workshops relevant to student academic, financial, and career success, partner with other student support centers and external partners to utilize available resources.
  • Gather feedback and compile and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to assess the achievement of program goals, to fulfill the requirements of the Annual Performance Report, annually required by the Department of Education.
  • Contribute content to TRIO's publications, promotional materials, and social media accounts to engage targeted audience in the programming and to increase attendance and engagement.
  • Participate in cross-training and professional development opportunities within the College Advising Center.
  • Perform other related duties and/or responsibilities as assigned or required
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Higher Education, Social Work, or in a related field; Master's Degree Preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience providing student academic advising, career counseling, student retention coaching or related services.
  • Experience assessing student needs and coordinating educational and community resources, experience working with under-served and culturally diverse populations a plus.
  • Experience in program development and administration preferred, TRIO experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of available college and community resources and/or programs related to student success.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time and organization skills.
  • Intermediate skill in using Microsoft Office with emphasis on Word, Power Point, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across various departments.
  • Willingness to work in the evenings and on weekends when needed.
