**Department:** Child Development: Day Camp

**Location:** North Suburban YMCA

**Position Summary:**Under the supervision of the Camp Director, the STEM Specialist provides program leadership, child development, and supervision for the STEM program. Responsible for developing and renewing the camp STEM curriculum, assisting with overall camp quality, and ensuring safety and welfare of campers.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Prioritize camper safety and emotional well-being.
  • Create and implement a theme-based STEM curriculum promoting healthy activity and creativity.
  • Document curriculum for future use.
  • Plan engaging recreational and educational activities emphasizing group participation.
  • Model YMCA values and develop positive relationships with campers.
  • Lead by example, set professional standards, and promote positive discipline.
  • Communicate expectations clearly to staff and supervisors.
  • Report incidents and maintain safety documentation.
  • Coordinate camp activities and participate in all camp events and meetings.
  • Maintain camp areas and supplies responsibly.
  • Assist with camp transitions and other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all policies and be flexible with schedule and responsibilities.

**Skills, Knowledge, and Requirements:**

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college or STEM experience preferred.
  • Enjoy working with children and understanding their needs.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of group processes and effective communication skills.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and Oxygen certifications required.
