TITLE: Fire Systems ManagerCLASSIFICATION: AdministrationDEPARTMENT: FacilitiesSUPERVISOR: Director of FacilitiesWORK HOURS: 37.5 hrs per weekCONTRACT LENGTH: 236 DaysSALARY SCHEDULE: STUDENT SUPPORT – OTHER, NON-CBA - $58,652 - $70,649CLOSING DATE: OPENED UNTIL FILLEDAs the Fire Systems Manager you will ensure GMCS adheres to fire regulations, codes, and best practices by working with the Navajo Nation, State of New Mexico, McKinely County & City of Gallup regulatory agencies. This specialist position designs, installs and maintains fire protection systems including alarms and suppression systems, and provides fire safety systems training. This work will be accomplished by communicating and scheduling inspections, managing contractors, and building financial budgets for annual financial planning. You will work with GMCS schools by updating paperwork and supporting school site administrators to ensure test, cleaning and inspections occur. Your primary responsibilities will include compliance, working regulatory agencies, managing contractors, ensuring deficiencies are corrected and updating documents to ensure GMCS is current with all governing bodies.Key Responsibilities
Overseeing and ensuring that all aspects of GMCS fire systems follow relevant regulations and codes.Support school site administrators in managing their site-specific Red Book by ensuring all third-party inspections have been completed and all paperwork is current and up to date.Support the facilities department by helping to manage deficiencies identified from tests and inspections that need correction.
- Coordinating with Authorities, Contractors M&O Crew & School Site Administrators:
Working with City of Gallup Fire Department, State of New Mexico's Fire Marshal's Office and the Navajo Nation to ensure compliance.Working with certified 3rd Party Vendors and M&O Crew to ensure all certifications, inspections are completed and documented for school sites, auxiliary buildings, pumps, pump houses and teacher housing units.Ensure school sites understand how to manage paperwork from their inspections.
- Conducting Inspections and Audits:
Regularly inspecting facilities and systems with Fire Marshal's and contractors to ensure compliance with fire safety codes and regulations, identifying potential hazards, and recommending corrective actions. Ensuring corrective actions are taken. Call for re-inspections.On your own conduct school site and department inspections to ensure compliance with fire codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations related to fire prevention and control. Identifying fire and life safety hazards within structures and developing recommendations for correction.
- Providing Administrative Training on Record Keeping for Fire Systems:
Support and train school site administrators to ensure site specific Red Books & MSDS books are up to date and centrally located so they can be produced when requested.
Keeping abreast of changes in fire safety regulations, codes and best practices.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Willingness to learn and understand Fire Safety Regulations: Knowledge of applicable fire safety codes, regulations, and standards, such as those set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
- Excellent Administrative Skills: Contractor management, scheduling, purchase order oversite, budget planning and accountability.
- Good Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate fire safety information to Principals, Deans, Head Custodians, M&O Crew, regulatory agencies and senior leadership.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve fire safety issues and hazards.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities effectively.
- Willing to participate in Training and Certification program: An example would be taking course work to become a Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), according to the NFPA.
- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Work Experience: A bachelor's degree or 4 years of equivalent work experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the essential job functions and navigate the work environment. This may include: sitting, standing, lifting, climbing steep stairwells, moving throughout the room or school, walking on roof systems, carrying up to 50 pounds, reaching, squatting, kneeling, extended periods of typing, and the physical ability to type on a keyboard or move light furniture.
Equipment/Technology Handled:
- Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all equipment, technology, software, etc.
- Current software used includes: Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, Brightly Asset Essentials Suite (formerly Dude Solutions), and Interplay employee training software.
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.
- Interruptions of work are routine.
- Flexibility and patience are required.
- Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision.
- After-hours work may be required.
Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.All GMCS schools are eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).
