A new National Science Foundation ( NSF ) Engineering Research Center ( ERC ): Environmentally Applied Refrigerant Technology Hub ( EARTH ) is a multi-institution, multi-disciplinary team from the University of Kansas, University of Notre Dame, University of Hawai'i, University of Maryland, University of South Dakota, and Lehigh University. EARTH researches and develops new circular refrigerant technologies that will impact the engineering and scientific communities, the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration ( HVACR ) industry, and society.
The Director for Outreach, Training, and Mentoring ( DOTM ) will oversee the ERC EARTH's overall mission of outreach, training, retaining, and mentoring students, faculty and partners. The DOTM will work closely with the Impact and Belonging (IB) Lead and with EARTH's Education Director in a full-time position, twelve-month, benefits-eligible, regular appointment. The DOTM will be responsible for directing the EARTH's mentoring program by coordinating with curriculum development, matching of mentee/mentors pairs or groups and onboarding of new EARTH members. Additionally, the DOTM will oversee the recruitment efforts on all levels of EARTH's function and lead the recruitment outreach within participating institutions, professional organizations, and government, industry and education partners. Building connections and relationships will be a critical component of recruitment efforts and may involve periodic travel to partner campuses, industry partner organizations, professional conferences or other pertinent recruitment opportunities. A significant portion of this work will require someone who is familiar with program planning, organizing, and managing.
This role requires a leader who not only understands higher education and student development but also excels in building and sustaining mentoring networks involving faculty, staff, alumni, and industry professionals to support student success across academic and professional pathways.
The ideal candidate is a student-centered professional who brings strong experience from within higher education and is skilled at bridging academic, professional, and industry networks to support student development. This role is ideal for those who have worked directly with students in areas such as STEM pathway programs, undergraduate research, or graduate student support and who are committed to expanding equitable access to STEM opportunities. This person will also be assisting EARTH students build relationships with industry partners, identify internship opportunities, and career exploration.
