The purpose of this position is to contribute to high-quality communications that support CTS and its programs. Work will include serving as the communications lead for programs (e.g., Minnesota Local Technical Assistance Programâ”mnltap.umn.edu), writing and editing, and managing and delivering communications projects.Responsibilities50% Plan, write, and edit material for communications products for CTS and its programs. Develop, write, and edit specialized, high-impact content for print and digital communications, including newsletters, websites, mass emails, event materials, research briefs, and marketing materials. Edit technical material for a lay audience, rewriting and reorganizing as needed; correspond with researchers, consultants, and other authors. Ensure CTS and University style guidelines and standards are followed. 45% Manage the development, publishing, and distribution of both new and recurring communications products. This includes creating production schedules and project plans, directing the activities of student workers and contract writers, managing print production with vendors, and ensuring delivery. Collaborate with graphic designer and other staff to help develop concepts for print and digital publications and products. Create new web pages, update existing website content, and use templates to create mass emails.5% Contribute as a team member in the administration of CTS programs. Assist in the design and implementation of Center-wide initiatives and special projects as needed. Contribute to the CTS Strategic Communications Plan.Work LocationThe Research and Innovation Office (RIO) and the Center for Transportation Studies endorses a âœwork with flexibilityâ approach that offers a welcoming and flexible work environment. Work location options include working fully remote, partially remote, or entirely in the office and are based on the work of the position. This position is designated as eligible for a work Profile 4 (work fully remotely with the exception of required attendance for on-site events); the successful candidate will have the option to be office-based or hybrid if fully remote is not preferred.Because the University of Minnesota is a land-grant institution that serves the state, the University, in most cases, expects employees to live in Minnesota. A University-configured laptop and software will be provided, but the successful candidate will need to provide their own reliable high-speed internet connection for a fully remote or partially remote work schedule. CTS management retains the right to modify flexible work arrangement agreements on a temporary or permanent basis for any reason at any time.Details regarding work schedule, work location, and other arrangements will be made upon offer of employment and a work schedule will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
Required Qualificationsâ— BA/BS degree in communications, English, journalism, marketing, or related field and at least two years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six years.â— Strong writing and editing skillsâ— Excellent project and time management skillsâ— Works well in a team-oriented, collaborative settingPreferred Qualificationsâ— Experience with Google Workspaceâ— Experience with Adobe Creative Suiteâ— Experience using a website content management systemâ— Experience using an email management system
