Job Description

GCI's Field Service Technician I represents the company's service philosophy by assisting customers with purchased and used products and services, including upgrades or expansions. Provide telecommunications installation and servicing of Video, high-speed Data, and Voice products within customer residences and businesses professionally and efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, service, and troubleshoot telecommunications equipment for video, voice, and data services from the tap or demarcation point to the customer's premises.
  • Perform routine maintenance on RF, analog, microwave, fiber optic, and electrical components.
  • Refer complex problems to network technicians.
  • Perform disconnects, reconnects, relocations, and repair or replace faulty components.
  • Use test equipment to measure and optimize signal quality.
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance, including cable locates and system upgrades.
  • Communicate with customers onsite and promote additional services.
  • Support and mentor junior technicians.
  • Maintain vehicle, inventory, and adhere to safety policies.

Additional Job Requirements

This entry-level position involves supporting senior technicians, gaining knowledge through training and certifications, and working under close supervision.

Perform basic installation, testing, and repair of Video, Voice, and Data services, including cable locates, system upgrades, and customer communication.

Support and respond to outages, update service orders, and escalate issues when necessary.

Work in various weather and environmental conditions, including heights and trenches, with physical and safety requirements outlined.

Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, and possibly travel within the state.

Participation in drug testing and physical exams may be required.
