The Department of Budget and Fiscal Services , Treasury Division is seeking a Tax Collection Support I to assist with the collection of governmental and non-governmental delinquent real property taxes and other related fees.Duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Collecting governmental and non-governmental delinquent real property taxes and other delinquent fees and charges by applying established office procedures and/or applicable City, collections, foreclosure and bankruptcy laws that result in maximizing the collection of the City revenues;
  • Contacting or interviewing delinquent taxpayers or their representatives to obtain sufficient information that will enable accurate assessment of the circumstances surrounding the delinquency;
  • Investigating current and historical data for each delinquent account to make determinations and/or recommendation to proceed with foreclosure, write-off, or forward to the collection agent;
  • Visiting delinquent clients from whom envelopes addressed and mailed were returned by the postal service as undeliverable or no response is received from telephone calls and/or written and demand letters to taxpayers, for the purpose of locating clients or their representative to discuss their delinquencies and arrange solutions; and
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Data and text messaging fees apply.Minimum Qualification RequirementsAt time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.Education RequirementEquivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.Experience RequirementThree (3) years of public contact experience, two (2) of which shall have been in tax collection or similar activities which shall have involved the application and interpretation of laws, rules, regulations and procedures in collecting delinquent accounts or taxes or in determining tax liability.SubstitutionAn Associate degree in Business or a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field may substitute for the required general experience. However, there is no substitution for the two years of specialized experience in tax collection or similar activities.The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.Verification Requirement: In order to be given credit for your education, clearly list your education credentials on your application. As part of the hiring process, you may be asked to furnish documentation to verify your education to satisfy this education qualification requirement. If available, please attach an electronic copy of your diploma and/or official transcript which shows the embossed seal or applicable FCE to your application.
