This individual must have considerable nonprofit financial management and leadership experience (and ideally private-sector financial experience, as well) and must be able to work effectively with the Board of Directors and partners across the organization, steward TPZ's resources, and support TPZ's future expansion.

Reporting to the Working Board Chair / Acting CEO, the Interim CFO will have multiple strategic responsibilities, including:

  • Collaborate closely with TPZ's working Board Chair, Chief Business Officer, the Board of Directors, and key advisors to make critical decisions about the strategy and structure of TPZ Ventures , a consumer-product-and-manufacturing-focused, revenue-generating component of TPZ's program.

The Interim CFO will oversee a team of the three: Controller, Senior Staff Accountant, & Accounts Payable Specialist

TPZ also contracts, as needed, with a third-party accounting firm, to fill specific needs and gaps and perform special projects. TPZ has been working with this firm for over 10 years in various capacities. The Interim CFO will be the primary liaison with this outside firm.

Operationally, the Interim CFO will be responsible for overseeing all facets of accounting, financial management, and GAAP compliance, including external financial reporting and filings, audit and board level reporting, forecasting, strategic and cash planning, internal controls, financial efficiencies, and facilitating grant management for a $30 million organization.

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce technical accounting policies and procedures in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Manage the relationship with external auditors and oversee the annual audit process.
  • Manage TPZ's Controller, Sr. Staff Accountant, and Accounts Payable Specialist , and other future members of the TPZ Finance team.

  • Oversee compliance and filings in all areas, including at the local, federal and state level.
  • Partner with the Development and Program teams to ensure effective and efficient grant management.
  • Oversee accounts payable, receipt of funds, and overall cash management.
  • Lead and refine the organization's annual budget process, in partnership with other members of the leadership team, and all department leads. Ensure the ability to maintain budget flexibility on evolving program activities.
  • Conduct forecasting and financial modeling to support fundraising and growth opportunities, and to help the organization understand the financial implications of future scenarios.
  • In partnership with other members of TPZ's leadership team, play a key role in determining TPZ's future strategy in a number of areas, including revenue growth and diversification, and re-launch and growth of TPZ's social enterprises.
  • Manage the financial compliance and reporting requirements of 11 TPZ subsidiary entities that constitute the businesses of TPZ Ventures. Including all tax filings, separate books and records that will consolidate to the parent organization. Manage the resulting UBIT and tax implications related to the Parent and subsidiaries.

The Interim CFO will also work closely with the Board of Directors and TPZ's new CEO, when hired, to determine the future structure of Financial Management at TPZ, with respect to leadership and capacity requirements, as well as organization and governance structure.
