Summary:

The right person for this role will be hard-working, a team player, willing to travel, and experienced in building envelope construction, consulting or testing. Working alongside other experienced Building Envelope Consulting and Testing Professionals, this role will provide consulting and testing to construction project teams to ensure continuity, confirm continuity, increase resiliency, and improve constructability of the building envelope

Typical Duties:

  • Review the project architectural drawings and specifications, providing recommendations relating to the building envelope systems and components. Provide comments on transition details, adequate surfaces to receive waterproofing materials, etc.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for completeness and for compliance with construction documents.
  • Perform assessments of the building envelope and associated components which includes reviewing available documents, site inspections and field-testing. Prepare detailed reports with recommendations for how to repair or replace issues identified.
  • Facilitate meetings with project team members, as necessary, to properly execute building envelope consulting and testing.
  • Assist in training junior staff in building envelope consulting, inspections and testing.
  • Interact and collaborate effectively with internal and external team members to assure needs of the company are met.
  • Account for possible project challenges or constraints and proactively seek to manage challenges.
  • Define clear goals for all aspects of a project and develop steps for their proper execution.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects within project requirements, budgets, etc.
  • Assisting in planning, performing, and reporting on building testing, including air leakage, water intrusion, materials, thermography, and indoor air quality.
  • Qualifications:

    • Minimum three (3) years of experience in consulting, inspection and testing building envelope components including glass and glazing systems, roofing and waterproofing systems.
    • Preferred degrees in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related fields
    • Preferred certifications in Building Envelope Commissioning (BECx) through International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC), University of Wisconsin – Madison, ASHRAE, or other reputable organizations.
    • Preferred certification in Level I or II Thermography.
    • Knowledge and experience with ASTM & AAMA moisture intrusion testing procedures
    • BPI and/or RESNET.
    • Preferred experience witnessing and/or executing building envelope testing for air leakage, water intrusion, materials, thermography, and indoor air quality.
    • Knowledge of the U.S. Green Building Council LEED® Rating System and other green building practices.
    • Attention to detail and ability to produce quality documents in compliance with company standards.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to review, understand, and evaluate drawings and specifications.
    • Dependable and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Physical Demands:

    • Ability to continuously sit, stand or walk.
    • Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift frequently.
    • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
