Position Overview
Under limited supervision, perform senior level design engineer duties within the Regulatory Decision Integration organization, On-site waste disposal facility (OSWDF) Project. The specific work assignments include Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in piping and pumping design duties and activities. The position will apply your engineering skills on projects involving pumps / piping systems, vessels, lifting and handling, cranes, permitting and regulatory compliance, while further developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.
Primary Duties
- Proficient in the execution of engineering design, including but not limited to 30-60-90 CFC process, test plan development and execution, development of technical specifications, and development of engineering drawings.
- Support subcontractor design, including understanding of the statement of work, technical requirements, and acting as the technical point of contact for design inputs, reviews, and approvals.
- Review subcontractor submittals for compliance with codes, standards, and contractual requirements.
- Analyze and validate engineering calculations and design documentation for quality and accuracy.
- Assist with procurement activities, including technical reviews of equipment/material specifications and vendor proposals.
- Design plant modifications on auxiliary structures, systems, and components.
- Assist in developing RFPs and technical bid evaluations.
- Maintain communication with the OSWDF organization for benchmarking and feedback.
- Contribute to weekly progress meetings and reports.
- Identify and evaluate project issues and problems.
- Update project schedules and assess cost impacts.
- Work with management on schedule and cost recovery plans.
- Participate in design meetings and develop operating procedures.
- Support construction quality assurance, start-up testing, and readiness assessments.
- Participate in Safety Work Groups.
Minimum Requirements
- BS in Mechanical Engineering with 10 years' experience in facility design, construction, start-up, and commissioning.
- Expertise in relevant codes, regulations, and industry practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience supporting field construction and resolving RFIs.
- Design experience with process pumps and piping systems per ASME B31.3 (minimum 5 years).
- Ability to obtain DOE L clearance.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Understanding of multiple engineering disciplines and team leadership.
Working Conditions
Work in an office environment and on-site during construction, with potential exposure to hazards. Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting up to 30 pounds. Radiological training may be required.
