Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor - Trial Preparation Assistant

The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor has an opening for a Trial Preparation Assistant (Paralegal) within the Special Investigations Bureau. The Trial Preparation Assistant provides a full range of administrative support to the Assistant District Attorneys performing complex legal work.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Communicating and acquiring documents from government agencies such as NYPD, Department of Justice, and the Office of the Medical Examiner.
  • Working independently, managing deadlines, and adapting to workflow changes.
  • Coordinating case schedules with courts, law enforcement, witnesses, and defense attorneys.
  • Effectively communicating with staff, court, law enforcement, and witnesses.
  • Compiling, analyzing, redacting, and reproducing case documents.
  • Drafting legal documents such as subpoenas and Orders to Produce.
  • Performing legal research accurately.
  • Securing, listening to, and transcribing calls from the Department of Corrections.
  • Maintaining electronic files and databases.
  • Preparing court calendars timely.
  • Traveling to different locations and agencies as required.
  • Performing administrative and clerical tasks.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent organization, communication, writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow policies and maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of e-discovery procedures.
  • Comfortable interviewing witnesses.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe, Lexis/Nexis, and Westlaw.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Fluency in a foreign language is helpful but not required.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field with at least one year of legal experience, or an approved Paralegal Certificate with extensive legal experience.
