Locations: South Bend, IN Additional Locations: NA Work Site: On Site Req ID: 214488 Position OverviewDavey Resource Group, a Davey Company, is seeking persons interested in natural resources careers, as an Environmental Technician. DRG provides a full array of horticultural, ecological stewardship, lakeshore, ravine, streambank, bluff restoration as well as traditional landscape maintenance to clients in the private and public sectors throughout the Midwest. Job DutiesPosition Description and Responsibilities Duties: Selected candidates will work collaboratively as part of a team. Position involves a variety of work, including invasive plant species control, native plant and seed installation, streambank, lake shore, ravine, and bluff stabilization and restoration, prescribed burning, traditional landscape management and other types of habitat restoration. The position is full time, but depends on workload and weather conditions. Majority of work is outdoors, often in inclement weather and in rugged terrain, and may involve using heavy equipment, such as spray rigs, backpack sprayers, augers, chain saws, mowers, etc... QualificationsDesired qualifications: Possession of or be willing to obtain an Indiana Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicators License is required. Prescribed burn experience and S130/S190 certification, and native plant identification a plus. Training in chain saw, brush saw, and 4x4 ATV/UTV beneficial. A degree in biology, botany, ecology, conservation, environmental science, or related fields is preferred.

  • SWPPP Inspections: Experience or familiarity with conducting Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections, including routine site monitoring, documentation, and compliance with state/local stormwater regulations.
  • Urban Forestry or Forestry Skills: A background or interest in urban forestry, tree inventory, tree health assessments, or general forestry practices would be valuable, especially in supporting municipal or conservation projects.
  • Landscaping: Hands-on landscaping experience, including planting, invasive species removal, maintenance of vegetation, and basic horticultural knowledge. Familiarity with landscape equipment and the ability to haul trailers safely is also beneficial.
  • Delineation & Plant ID: Exposure to wetland delineation protocols and the ability to identify native and invasive plant species, particularly in the Midwest region, would be a plus.
  • GIS and Mapping: Experience with ArcGIS, QGIS, or mobile GIS apps (like Collector, Field Maps) for field data collection, mapping, and spatial analysis.
Candidates must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs and Google. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license, have a good driving record, and be able to report directly to the work site. We are seeking teamwork-oriented individuals with excellent written and oral communication skills, professional work ethic with attention to detail and safety. Additional Information Start and end times vary based on the time of the year and the day's assignment (start times generally around 7-8am). Work is 100% field based. Typical work week is Monday through Friday, approximately 9 hours a day (this includes travel if reporting to an office). Normal work day consists of: reporting to an office at set time, participating in daily stretches, assisting with loading supplies and equipment, riding in a company vehicle to worksite, perform/achieve worksite's daily goal, riding back to the office and assisting with unloading.
