Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Step Down RN to join the IMCU Float Pool at Watauga Medical Center. This role requires proficiency in telemetry monitoring, cardiac drip management, and caring for a diverse patient population, including occasional pediatric cases.

Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality care to step-down/PCU patients with a 4:1 or 5:1 nurse-to-patient ratio.

Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, manage dysrhythmias, and respond to rapid responses.

Administer medications, including cardiac drips (no titration), and manage central/peripheral IV lines.

Float to MedSurg units as needed based on patient volume.

Document patient care using Epic EHR (recent experience required).

Requirements

• License: Active NC RN or Compact Multistate License (required at submission).
• Experience: 2+ years of Step Down/PCU/Telemetry experience (first-time travelers accepted).
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS (AHA required).
• Skills: Telemetry, cardiac drip management, pediatric competency (rare but required).
• Compliance: Must reside >40 miles from the facility (driver's license verification required).

• Patient Population: Adolescents, Adults, Pediatrics, Geriatrics (average daily census: 20–24).
• Facility Notes:
  • Block scheduling requests considered (not guaranteed).
  • Scrubs: All navy or all white.
