POSITION SUMMARY:

The Prototype Manager is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end execution of prototype samples for customer projects, transforming creative concepts into high-quality, tangible results. This hands-on leader manages schedules, resources, and priorities to ensure prototypes are delivered on time, meet design intent, and exceed quality expectations. Working closely with cross-functional teams and production partners, the Prototype Manager drives collaboration, problem-solving, and process improvements to bring innovative ideas to life while fostering a skilled, adaptable prototype team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead hands-on involvement in the prototype process, assisting with problem-solving, troubleshooting, and resource allocation.
  • Work closely with the Prototype Supervisor to organize execution plans that ensure on-time shipment and exceptional quality
  • Owns the prototype schedule, communicates with all parties following the sample process on progress, issues, and changes to execute on-time high quality results.
  • Leads coordination efforts with design, estimating, and project management teams to confirm final documentation is completed accurately before kicking off sample requests.
  • Collaborate with domestic and international partners to resolve questions or adjustments impacting prototype execution.
  • Coordinate with production when additional resources may be needed to support delivery of prototypes
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, consistency, and quality.
  • Develop team skills and cross-training to strengthen capabilities and flexibility.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has direct reports.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficient in SolidWorks.
  • Strong understanding of prototype development, materials, and manufacturing methods in wood, metal, and plastics.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management programs specifically the Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work, and eye for quality.
  • Strong communication skills, able to provide clear updates and collaborate across departments.
  • Organizational and time management skills, ability to multitask.
  • Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and coordinate daily activities of the position.
  • React quickly, confident decision maker.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or related field is required
  • 2 or more years of experience in the development of custom solutions utilizing manufacturing methods in wood, metal and plastics.
  • 2 or more years leading a team, process, program, and/or project

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Varying work schedules based on business needs are sometimes required
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear
  • Must have a valid driver's license and/or ID
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard
  • Ability to read a variety of materials
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and guidelines
