Donor Counselor I
We are seeking a Donor Counselor I for our Pennsylvania Office located at 700 Spring Garden St, Philadelphia, PA 19123.
Shift Information: Monday - Friday 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM with Rotating Saturdays
The salary for this position is $20.24/hr. + Shift Differential (+$1.75 after 3pm, +$1.25 on weekends)
Responsibilities
- Support the deferral, notification and counseling of donors with abnormal or unexpected test results.
- Educate donors regarding risk behaviors, precautions and possible future implications to health providing appropriate community referrals to donors.
- Identify where donor information gathered during counseling sessions requires follow-up (such as identifying suspect products and retrieval, upgrading Deceased Donor Registration or notifying outside agencies of infectious disease risk).
- Coordinate donor participation in research or follow-up studies by scheduling follow-up testing and upgrade deferral status as a result of additional follow-up test results.
- Complete donor case files and ensure actions have been taken as required.
- May investigate and gather supporting documentation for donor reentry and reinstatement, including notifying donors of changes to such statuses.
- Perform recipient tracing (look back) activities.
Scope
Individual contributor that works under close supervision. Use technical knowledge to solve routine types of problems. Represents the Red Cross in interactions with blood donors and the public regarding transmissible diseases.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in health science, quality assurance, or a related field required.
- Experience: 1 year of related hospital, laboratory, infectious disease or sexually transmitted disease clinic setting experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
- Management Experience: N/A
- Skills & Abilities: Ability to work on a team. Specific training in health education, infectious disease counseling, patient education, or equivalent is required. Familiarity with medical terminology required. Intermediate to advanced level computer skills with Microsoft Office applications in a Windows environment is required.

Physical Requirements
The duties are representative of the essential functions of the position. Physical requirements are those present in normal office environment conditions. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Ability to use a personal computer and applicable software for sustained periods of time.
