OverviewThe Monitor Technician's functions include observation, identification, documentation and communication of various cardiac rhythms. The Monitor Technician reports these changes to the patient's assigned nurse and responds to physician inquiries. QualificationsWork Experience: Telemetry work experience required ResponsibilitiesContinuously observes, evaluates, and recalls cardiac rhythms of telemetry patients. Effectively performs video monitoring of seizure patients.Assessment of cardiac rhythmAccurately interprets cardiac rhythmsMeasures EKG intervals to make accurate cardiac rhythm assessmentRecognizes dysrhythmias or changes in EKG complex promptlyMonitors Q waves, ST segment and QT intervals and notes changesResponds to all monitoring outcomesInvestigates the cause of any interruption in reception of the heart rhythmDocumentationAccurately documents EKG rhythm strip at the beginning of each shiftDocuments all changes in rhythms or EKG complexReportingGives concise, complete end of shift reportGives concise, complete EKG rhythm report to the RN caring for the patient on telemetryReports all changes in rhythm and EKG complex to the RN caring for the patient on telemetryInteracts with physicians when inquiries are madeReports any interruption in reception of heart rhythmKnows process for renewal of telemetry.Monitoring of seizure patientsContinuously observes patient activity via video monitorRecognizes changes in patient behavior or activity while on the video monitorManipulates video camera to assure continuous observation via video monitorAlerts staff caring for the patient of any changes in behavior or activityEnsures proper function of monitoring equipment, maintains adequate supplies, and uses troubleshooting techniques to enhance optimal utilization of equipment.Knowledgeable about monitoring systemsAble to use the functions of the monitoring system and individualize settings to each patient's needAble to maneuver video camera to ensure adequate monitoring of seizure patientsCorrectly enters monitoring changes in the computerTroubleshootingUses problem-solving skills and past experiences to optimize use of monitoring equipment or to address equipment failureSeeks assistance from peers, Nurse Manager or Biomedical Engineering to address equipment concernsReports equipment failures immediatelyMaintains suppliesMaintains responsibility for controlling equipment and suppliesDocuments and tracks equipment useReports equipment needs to Unit LeaderRestocks MT supplies as neededMaintains current knowledge of cardiac monitoring and participates in continuing education.Knowledge and educationSuccessfully completes certification EKG test and ongoing recertifications.Attends required in-servicesInteracts with CNS to advance skillsParticipates in unit meetings and in-servicesShares information with peersIntegration of individual efforts within unity and performs supportive activities to optimize efficient patient care.Supportive activitiesPolitely and promptly answers all telephone linesEnters changes as appropriateComputer entry for orders including but not limited to: Labs, SPD suppliesFlexibility and adaptation to changing unit needsAccepts, assists with, and supports unit changes with explanationEfficient and accurate response in a unit crisisAssists in sitting with patientsUnit involvementWillingness to assist peers in assignment completionMaintains open communicationAssists in achieving department goals and objectivesGives and receives peer evaluation constructivelyKnowledgeable of quality assurance indicators and assists in improvement of patient care About UsFind it here.Discover the job, the career, the purpose you were meant for. Compensation and BenefitsThe compensation range for this position is $18.51per hour - $29.99per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
