Position Summary

The Senior Executive Director leads the Urban Services Branch of the YMCA of Greater San Francisco, the designated Community Action Agency for San Francisco County. This branch provides a wide range of services designed to expand access to resources, promote well-being, and support individuals and families across diverse communities. Programs include family support, case management, therapeutic mentoring, afterschool enrichment, teen leadership, workforce development, and more.

Serving as a hub for community collaboration and innovation, the Urban Services Branch partners with local schools, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to address systemic barriers and support individual and community well-being.

The Senior Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership in areas including program oversight, community engagement, board development, fundraising (annual and sustaining contributions), volunteer coordination, and external relations. This role ensures programmatic alignment with YMCA standards and drives operational and financial sustainability.

Strong relationship-building and cross-sector collaboration skills are essential for cultivating and maintaining partnerships with public and private stakeholders. The position requires on-site leadership across branch locations, participation in community meetings, and occasional travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree (MA, MS, MSW, MPA, MBA, or equivalent) in Social Work, Public Administration, Psychology, Public Health, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of senior leadership experience in nonprofit organizations or social service agencies.
  • Minimum of 3 years overseeing multi-million dollar budgets with demonstrated fiscal accountability.
  • At least 5 years of experience securing funding through federal, state, foundation, and corporate grants.
  • Minimum of 3 years leading comprehensive fundraising initiatives, including donor cultivation, major gifts, capital campaigns, and special events.
  • Minimum of 5 years supervising and developing staff and volunteers in a multi-program or multi-site environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience building community partnerships and delivering services in diverse cultural and socioeconomic contexts.
  • Minimum of 3 years managing direct service programs, with knowledge of case management, compliance standards, and outcome measurement.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, organizational change, policy advocacy, and nonprofit board engagement.
