Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH consists of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts.

Manages professional accounting work of considerable difficulty in the operation of the general accounting division of the agency's Office of Financial Management.

Major duties include: reconciliations and compliance, preparing management reports, resolving accounting errors, continuous review of accounting systems with recommendations for improvements, assessment of workloads and staffing, and supervision of senior fiscal professionals, technicians, and support staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience and knowledge of governmental accounting principles, policies, procedures, and standards.
• Knowledge and experience with business standards for reconciliations.
• Knowledge and experience with generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP).
• Experience serving in a supervisory capacity, providing performance management and staff development.
• Ability to interpret regulations, policies, and procedures, and to develop and implement changes and new processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word; experience with database applications.

Additional Considerations

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
