Job Description The Registered Nurse supports the University Health Service providers and staff, as well as UTC students, faculty, and staff by promoting health and wellness and support for acute and chronic illness. Responsibilities
  • Provides direct nursing care
  • Assists providers with medical procedures
  • Triages and schedules patients
  • Returns phone calls
  • Obtains labs ordered by providers and notifies patients of the results when appropriate
  • Calls in medications and refills when directed by providers
  • Performs lab draws, wound care, IV insertions, and injections
  • Provides oversight of immunization compliance
  • Responsible for Nursing Protocols
  • Performs basic electronic medical record competencies
  • Manages CHEPS Professional Program requirements
  • Manages travel health and international student requirements
  • Provides support for new student orientation and health promotion activities with other campus and community partners
  • Cross trains for front desk relief
  • Cross trains for lab duties
  • Mentors students who are at UHS for clinical rotations
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (creation and management of spreadsheets) and MS Word
  • Knowledge of and ability to use the Electronic Health Record
  • Knowledge of effective communication with patients, families, colleagues and university employees
  • Knowledge of the culture of quality, safety, and caring in a variety of settings
  • Knowledge of immunization requirements for young adults
  • Knowledge and skill to perform basic wound care
  • Practices ethically with integrity
  • Able to multitask effectively
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills related to safe patient care
  • Ability to respect differences in culture, attitudes, values, and expectations of others
  • Ability to promote a positive image of nursing by modeling the values and attitudes of the nursing profession
  • Skilled in phlebotomy techniques, IV insertion, injections (SQ and IM)

QualificationsMinimum: Requires a B.S. in nursing; one year of experience as a nurse in a hospital, primary, or acute care practice; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must hold a current, unencumbered RN license in the State of TN or Compact State; and must have current BLS certification. Preferred: At least two of years of experience as an emergency room, school health, or urgent care nurse; experience with phlebotomy, injections, and starting IV's; and a current PALS/ACLS certification is preferred.
