New York, NY The Browning School is a K-12 boys school with facilities on 62nd and 64th Streets in midtown Manhattan, New York. Founded by scholar and teacher John A. Browning, The Browning School has been a leader in fostering the intellectual and personal growth of boys and young men since 1888. Serving roughly 450 students in kindergarten through grade 12, Browning strives to combine the best of a traditional independent school environment and curriculum with imaginative teaching and a strong value system. POSITION DESCRIPTION Browning is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Annual Giving to join the school's Advancement team. The role will oversee all aspects to support the success of The Annual Fund, the foundation of Browning's fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Director of Annual Giving will also work collaboratively with the Senior Director of Major Gifts, the Director of Alumni Affairs, the Special Events Manager and Community Liaison, the Director of Advancement Services, and the Communications department. This is a full-time, 12 month position with an expected annual salary range of $100,000-$120,000, commensurate with experience. A bachelor's degree and considerable experience in the role is required. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of an Annual Giving program, including strategy, execution, and donor stewardship:
    • Oversee the Annual Fund Parent Committee, including the recruitment, year-round training, stewardship, and support of these volunteers.
    • Drive parent participation and giving, providing regular updates to volunteers on assignments, progress, and outcomes.
    • Manage the alumni Annual Fund in partnership with the Director of Alumni Relations.
    • Collaborate with the Communications team to develop and produce all digital and print Annual Fund materials, such as solicitation letters, appeals, case statements, brochures, and pledge reminders.
    • Coordinate donor recognition efforts to ensure all donors are appropriately thanked, acknowledged, and stewarded.
    • Support the production of the annual Report of Giving, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Support cultivation and stewardship events:
    • Partner with the Special Events Manager and Community Liaison to plan events that recognize and engage donors, including the Leadership Donors Reception and other cultivation opportunities.
  • Maintain clear and consistent reporting:
    • Generate and distribute regular reports and updates on Annual Fund performance to key stakeholders, including the Head of School, Chief Advancement Officer, Trustee Advancement Committee, and Parent Committee.
    • Update records within the school's database system, Raiser's Edge.
  • Contribute to strategic fundraising initiatives:
    • Work closely with the Chief Advancement Officer, Senior Director of Major Gifts, and Trustee Advancement Committee to refine current strategies and develop new approaches to strengthen the Annual Fund.
  • Identify and support major gift opportunities within the Annual Fund:
    • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Major Gifts to research and identify prospects.
    • Review incoming families with the Director of Admissions and prepare background reports for the Chief Advancement Officer and Head of School.
    • Provide research support as needed for cultivation and solicitation efforts.

    A successful Director of Annual Giving will demonstrate most or all of the following: Three to five years of prior experience in fundraising or a related field, with a strong preference for candidates who bring creativity to marketing and event planning efforts.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
    • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced and dynamic Advancement office.
    • A high level of energy, strong organizational skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
    • Proven track record of engaging, motivating, and stewarding volunteers and donors.
    • Familiarity with independent day school environments is advantageous but not required.
    • A high degree of computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, the Google Ecosystem and other Windows-based programs.
    • Experience with Raiser's Edge, Canva, Veracross and/or Mailchimp is strongly preferred.
