Halo Studios, part of Xbox Game Studios, develops the iconic Halo video game series and related media. The Lead Concept Artist defines the visual vision of the Halo universe, working closely with the Art Director and development teams to produce imagery that communicates the visual and experiential goals. You should have strong skills in composition, color, character, environment, and graphic design, with a passion for science fiction aesthetics and practical content creation.

This role involves providing art direction, working with Unreal and other concept art tools, and mentoring team members. Flexibility allows working from home up to two days a week (Thursday and Friday).

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Art Director and Concept team to define the visual style of the project.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the game universe and technological constraints.
  • Set and maintain clear design goals and deliverables.
  • Create and review concept art, illustrations, and key artwork.
  • Provide feedback and guidance during production, mentoring artists and collaborating across teams.
  • Work primarily onsite from Monday to Wednesday (60%).
QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor's Degree or Certificate in Design, Fine Arts, or related field + 4+ years of experience in game or entertainment art.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience (e.g., Lead Artist, Art Manager).
  • Proficiency in anatomy, industrial/architectural/graphic design, and art fundamentals.
  • Experience with Unreal or similar game engines.
Preferred
  • 5+ years in the entertainment industry.
  • Experience shipping AAA titles.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Blender, Unreal Engine, Maya, Substance Designer/Painter/Zbrush, Houdini, After Effects.
  • Collaborative mindset and openness to critique.
