Duties Description Candidates will be assisting current trades staff with addressing current problems using up-to-date codes. May be required to supervise small crews of staff. Will be required to plan out and complete projects. The candidate will be required to safely operate a dump truck, skid steer, tractor, plow truck, loader, chipper, stump grinder and other machines. Will perform manual and semi-skilled work in various DEC facilities. Work assignments may include cleaning of toilets/bathroom facilities, building of outhouses and picnic tables, winter roof shoveling, minor carpentry, roofing, painting, minor plumbing, equipment operation, chainsaw operation, maintaining roads, grounds and facilities, lifting garbage cans chest high, using rakes and shovels and various hand tools. Candidates must be able to follow written or oral instructions to complete projects. Candidates will be required to operate a personal computer. Candidates must be well-groomed and wear an issued uniform, as well as proper safety PPE. Issued clothing and safety gear must be kept clean and presentable. Candidates need to be flexible with their schedule and assignments and be able to change easily and efficiently from task to task.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Must be able to work in remote areas.Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required.Weekends and holidays may be required.
