This is a full-time position located on-site at our Modesto Distribution Center. As an Equipment Engineer I, you will support the design, maintenance, and optimization of equipment and systems used in our food canning operations. This role is ideal for recent engineering graduates or those with limited experience in mechanical, industrial, or food process engineering. You may be expected to work up to 6 days a week during our peak season. This position will be primarily responsible to:
- Assist in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of machinery and conveyor systems.
- Monitor production line efficiency, identify bottlenecks, and recommend improvements.
- Support quality assurance by ensuring equipment meets food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, SQF).
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with mechanics to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.
- Maintain technical documentation, including equipment manuals and maintenance logs.
- Participate in safety audits and implement corrective actions.
- Engage in and contribute toward continuous improvement projects focused on reducing waste and increasing throughput.
- Work closely with machine shop vendors to create parts.
- Work with vendors to maintain facility equipment, i.e. air compressors and dryers, A/C units, plumbing, electrical, lighting and more.
- Other duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements:
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Food Process Engineering.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively under pressure in a high paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability of attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to follow procedures.
- Verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within the team.
Candidate Preferences:
- At least 2 years in manufacturing or food processing preferred.
- Familiarity with PLCs, CAD software, and mechanical systems.
Physical Requirements: Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires the following percentages of time committed to physical activity: 50% or more sitting, 25% or less walking, and 25% or more standing. The job is performed under occasional temperature variations and in a warehouse environment. Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees.
