The Patient Service Representative (PSR) is the first point of contact for patients and visitors at a healthcare facility. This role is responsible for providing excellent customer service, managing patient check-in/check-out processes, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, collecting payments, and maintaining accurate records.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Greet patients warmly and provide a positive and professional first impression.
+ Register patients by collecting and verifying personal, medical, and insurance information.
+ Schedule, reschedule, or cancel appointments in accordance with patient and provider availability.
+ Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and direct calls to the appropriate departments.
+ Verify insurance eligibility and obtain necessary pre-authorizations or referrals.
+ Collect copayments, balances, and other patient financial responsibilities at the time of service.
+ Maintain confidentiality of all patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
+ Communicate clearly with patients regarding wait times, forms, instructions, and follow-ups.
+ Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure smooth patient flow and high-quality care.
+ Update and maintain accurate patient records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Requirements Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or healthcare-related training a plus.
+ 1+ year of experience in a medical office, customer service, or administrative role preferred.
+ Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance verification, and EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
+ Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
+ Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
+ Bilingual skills (Spanish, etc.) a plus.
Work Environment:
+ Front desk or reception area in clinics, hospitals, or medical practices.
+ May require sitting for extended periods and occasional lifting of office supplies.
+ Standard business hours; some evenings or weekends may be required depending on the facility.
