As a member of the properties' Executive Committee, the Director of Engineering is a highly visible role with exposure to Senior and Corporate leadership. This position reports to the hotel General Manager.

The Director of Engineering is responsible for maintaining the overall operation of the maintenance department and the appearance and working order of the hotel. The engineer must be able to work independently, as well as with others. Responsibilities include maintaining the exterior of the building, parking lot, and common areas; maintaining all equipment in guest rooms; conducting monthly safety inspections; training staff on safety and emergency procedures; and working with vendors. The Director of Engineering must be willing to respond to emergencies and collaborate with corporate maintenance on remodeling projects or capital expenditure needs. The role requires comprehensive maintenance knowledge and troubleshooting skills in painting, HVAC, carpentry, equipment, and tools.

The salary range for the position is $97,000 to $125,000.

Key duties include:

• Reviewing contracts and negotiating revisions with vendors, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Requisitioning supplies and materials for construction projects.
• Collaborating with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals during hotel openings to resolve work procedures, complaints, and construction issues.
• Interpreting and explaining plans and contract terms to staff, workers, and clients.
• Planning, organizing, and directing maintenance activities.
• Preparing budgets and tracking project costs.
• Developing and implementing quality control programs.
• Inspecting projects for compliance with building and safety codes.
• Working with building code officials, zoning officials, and community design committees as needed.
• Managing utility systems.
• Experience in equipment specification and purchasing is preferred.
• Maintaining communication with Corporate Staff.
• Coaching and counseling employees to uphold Hyatt service standards.

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively interact with people from diverse cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Minimum of 6 years of progressive hotel or building management experience, preferably with Hyatt.
• Experience with hotel pre-opening is preferred.
• Service-oriented with professional presentation skills.
• At least 6 years in a senior facility management role.
• Proven leadership skills.
• Engineering or Facility Management degree preferred.
• Strong qualities of high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivation, effective communication, customer service excellence, and bottom-line improvement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
