We are hiring a Director of Property Accounting at Ender to design an institution-grade accounting engine and serve as the founding Controller for our new in-house property management services company.

Areas of responsibility

Domain authority & requirements owner: Document, prioritize, and continuously refine all accounting requirements (GL, sub-ledgers, Working Trial Balance, trust accounts, REIT & lease standards).

Customer & auditor interface: Lead discovery sessions, onboarding workshops, and audit walkthroughs with controllers, staff accountants, and external auditors; convert their edge-case scenarios into clear product guidance.

System design reviews: Validate data models, posting logic, and period-close workflows proposed by engineering; sign off that each release meets GAAP/IFRS and state trust-account regulations.

Compliance & regulatory intelligence: Track changes in ASC, IFRS, and state property-management rules; own the internal “single source of truth” for accounting policy and ensure the product remains future-proof.

Implementation & migration advisory: Advise customer success teams on mapping data from Yardi/MRI/RealPage/Appfolio, designing cut-over checklists, and balancing historical ledgers.

Internal enablement & training: Teach engineers, PMs, and support staff the “why” behind complex rules via playbooks, brown-bag sessions, and sample datasets.

Thought leadership: Represent the company on panels, webinars, and white papers that showcase our accounting rigor to win enterprise trust.

Candidate profile

Must-have

• 10+ years of institutional property-accounting leadership (Big 4 real-estate audit senior manager or Controller/VP at a public REIT)
• Active or inactive CPA with mastery of ASC 842/360/805 and trust-account regulations
• Hands-on system experience: led or advised implementations of Yardi, MRI, RealPage, NetSuite, SAP REFX, or similar
• Customer-facing credibility: comfortable running deep-dive sessions with CFOs, controllers, and auditors
• Exceptional verbal & written communication that translates technical accounting into plain English for cross-functional teams

Should-have

• Proven skill at creating structured documentation and training non-accountants
• High cognitive empathy and positive-sum problem-solving style
• Experience consulting on data migrations, close accelerations, or SOX readiness projects

Nice-to-have

• Exposure to SaaS start-ups or product-led environments
• Familiarity with automation tools (Zapier, Workato) or modern BI stacks (Looker, Power BI)
• Adept at basic SQL/BI queries to validate or illustrate accounting logic
• Prior speaking or publishing record in real estate accounting circles
