Job Summary:
A member of the plant leadership team at Sabrosura Foods – Monticello, WI, the FSQ Manager ensures finished food products meet quality and food safety requirements set by the company, customers, and regulatory agencies. This role requires strong technical expertise in food safety, sanitation, analytics, environmental monitoring, compliance, and commercialization. The FSQ Manager leads the department in inspection, testing, and monitoring processes and maintains programs that ensure product quality and regulatory compliance.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversees onboarding, training, and development of FSQ employees
- Manages team scheduling, work assignments, and attendance tracking (NOVAtime)
- Conducts performance evaluations and oversees Career Tier development
- Drives a culture of ownership and performance through effective coaching and accountability
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Cross-functional leadership : Builds strong partnerships across Operations, Production, and Corporate FSQ to ensure alignment, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
- Food safety and regulatory expertise : Deep knowledge of HACCP, FSMA, SQF, EMP, and risk-based programs; confidently leads audits, inspections, mock recalls, and CAPA processes.
- Culture builder : Champions food safety and quality culture; effectively influences plant personnel to follow best practices and reinforces ownership and accountability.
- Analytical and process-driven : Leverages data, quality metrics, and process controls to drive decision-making, validate results, and eliminate waste.
- Technical writing & documentation : Writes and maintains audit-ready SOPs, food safety plans, and quality documentation with precision and clarity.
- Talent development : Coaches and develops a high-performing FSQ team; manages performance, training, scheduling, and career growth through structured tools like Career Tier.
- Customer & regulatory relations : Interfaces professionally with FDA, USDA, SQF, and customer auditors. Manages supplier and customer quality requirements, documentation, and issue resolution.
- Budget and resource management : Controls departmental spending, staffing levels, and resource allocation to meet strategic goals while maintaining compliance and product quality.
- Continuous improvement (preferred): Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or CI principles to streamline processes and enhance outcomes.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of leadership experience in food manufacturing quality
- Advanced knowledge of food safety and quality systems including GMPs, SOPs, SSOPs, HACCP, FSMA, and Food Safety Plans
- Strong working knowledge of regulatory and audit expectations (e.g., FSIS, USDA, FDA, SQF, AIB, and other customer audits)
- Proven ability to ensure compliance across all food safety areas including:
- Incoming ingredient verification
- Finished product testing
- Label claim substantiation (e.g., allergens, gluten-free, GMO)
- SQF Practitioner certification or willingness to obtain
Preferred Certifications (not required):
- HACCP Certification
- PCQI Certification
- Experience in cheese or dairy manufacturing
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing knowledge
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move between office and manufacturing environments (exposure to noise, temperature changes, and wet conditions).
- Requires standing, walking, and inspecting equipment for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting, bending, or reaching may be required.
